Hormuz Island travel guide

Why go

Small Hormuz is famous for its mineral-rich coloured earth — the Valley of Rainbows, the red beach where the waves turn crimson, and the edible red soil used in local cooking.

Top sights

  • Rainbow Valley and the Valley of Statues.
  • Red Beach (Silver Beach next to it).
  • Portuguese Castle from 1507.
  • Dr. Ahmad Nadalian's museum and murals in the village.

Getting there

Speedboats from Bandar Abbas (about 30 min) or from Qeshm.

Tips

Tour the island by tuk-tuk (the drivers are locals). Bring cash; there are few shops and no ATMs for foreign cards anyway. Best November–March.
