Khur and Garmeh desert guide

Why go

Khur and the tiny oasis of Garmeh are where travellers come to slow down: mud-brick ecolodges, date palms, camels and absolute silence at night.

Things to do

  • Sunset on the Mesr and Rig-e Jenn dunes.
  • The white salt lake near Khur.
  • Walk through Garmeh's palm grove and spring-fed pools.
  • Stargazing — the Milky Way is clearly visible.

Getting there

Buses from Isfahan or Yazd to Khur (4–5 h); ecolodges arrange pick-ups and desert tours.

Tips

Best October–April; nights can be cold in winter. Cash only — there are no exchange offices.
